E, 2 P's.Looking for something that is compatible and will fit inside the R I believe some of the Highpoint controllers will allow you to span drives over two controllers, but don't hold me to that. Also some of the controllers can't be booted off of if that's an issue. That's a tall order. So 6 drives would call for 24 lanes. PCIe slots can only support up to 16 lanes. Of course, if the controller handles the mirroring, theoretically the system would only need 12 lanes to feed a 3 drive stripe and the controller can mirror that to the other three drives internally.

I haven't looked but I'd be very surprised to see a board that accepted 6 NVMe drives and would work this way. Thanks for the answers. Those drives are Gen3 x4, if you use Gen2 you reduce their overall speed down again, at this rate they wont be of any benefit. I know that there are difference between "optimal performance" vs "best performance" but at the risk of hardware issues or compatibility issues?
